Semester 2 Kicks Off — Welcoming Back 100  Students at Fly Compton

This weekend, the Fly Compton Foundation officially launched Semester 2 and had the joy of welcoming back 100 returning students,  a powerful milestone that speaks to the trust and momentum of our community.

Orientation Highlights

From the moment attendees arrived, the energy was high. We began with opening remarks from Fly Compton leadership—Demetrius, Ron, Carla, and Christa—who reinvigorated our shared mission centered on Exposure, Education, and Elevation.

This semester also marks a big step forward: our ground school now meets at CSU Dominguez Hills’ Innovation Center. Students and families toured the space to see where learning happens, modern classrooms, collaborative areas, and resources designed to support hands-on STEM and aviation learning. It’s an environment that matches our students’ ambition.

What we covered:

  • Campus tour & welcome session at our new CSUDH Innovation Center home

  • Ground school expectations and classroom flow (Alex)

  • Registration system walkthrough so families can stay on track (Carla)

  • Volunteer opportunities for parents and families to plug in (Carla & Christa)

  • Program highlights, next steps, and Q&A (Alex / Youssef / Rosa)

Each segment was designed not only to inform, but to connect—bringing families, students, and staff onto the same page for the journey ahead.

Why This Semester Is Special

Welcoming back 100 students is more than a number; it’s a declaration of purpose. It shows how many young people believe in Fly Compton and trust us with their growth. That level of participation elevates our responsibility, and we’re ready for it.

This semester, we’ll also host the Compton Air & Space Fair, our annual showcase of aviation, STEM, and community. It’s a prime opportunity to connect with even more students, introduce families to what Fly Compton is all about, and add interested youth to our program waitlist so they’re first in line for future cohorts.
